Common Types of Shoulder Injuries

Shoulder injuries can limit your range of motion, affecting your ability to do your job, complete household chores, and enjoy daily activities. While overexertion and aging can cause some shoulder injuries, it’s also common for a shoulder injury to result from an accident. Some of the most common shoulder injuries include:

Rotator cuff tear

A rotator cuff tear happens when the tendons that connect the muscles to the bone around the shoulder joint are torn. Rotator cuff tear injuries can cause significant pain, limited range of motion, insomnia, and an inability to carry out certain tasks. Rotator cuff injuries typically take a long time to heal fully, and physical therapy might be necessary.

Tendonitis

Tendonitis occurs when tendons – the connective tissue that links muscles and bones in the shoulders – become inflamed. Tendonitis can develop over time as a person ages, but sudden inflammation due to an accident is also common. In addition to physical pain, tendonitis can lead to other complications, including tendon tears, if left untreated.

Impingement

Shoulder impingement occurs when the shoulder blade and connective tissue rub against each other, causing pain, inflammation, and stiffness. Shoulder impingement can eventually lead to other serious shoulder conditions, including tendonitis.

Fractured bones

Broken and fractured bones can occur in the shoulder due to severe trauma in an accident. The primary bones that make up the shoulder include the clavicle or collarbone, the humerus (upper arm bone), and the scapula (shoulder blade). Fractures may need to be repaired in surgery and can take months to heal. Physical therapy may be needed to regain mobility in the shoulder.

Dislocated shoulder

When the ball of the upper arm bone pops out of the socket connecting it to the shoulder blade, the shoulder can become dislocated. Dislocated shoulders can cause intense pain and reduced mobility. Long-term complications can occur. When a shoulder becomes dislocated, it often causes damage to the connective tissue around the shoulder joint, leading to an increased risk of dislocation again in the future.

From our clients

I would recommend Richard Isolde to my family and friends, and he was accommodating in handling our case. He was always available by text, phone calls, and email. Most significantly, he helped us get what we deserved. Richard Isolde is always there for his clients and does whatever he can to get the job done.

FD

Richard Isolde worked very hard on my case, making the impossible possible.
He was able to get the full amount up to the policy limit and then get punitive damages in addition. I understand that is a rare accomplishment. I am grateful for that and I congratulate him. Your firm was recommended to me by a friend and I will pay it forward by recommending him as well as PRA.

ML

I used Mr. (SQ) Lee for a personal injury matter and could not have been any more pleased with his services. He understood my injury and helped me every step of the way. He was courteous and kind and I always felt better after speaking with him. His assistant, Sherrill, was also wonderful and together they made a great team! I would absolutely recommend them, and the firm, to anyone.

Demanding Compensation for Shoulder Injury Accidents

person with shoulder injury

Recovering from a shoulder injury can be costly. Depending on the specific losses that you’ve suffered, you might be able to claim compensation for:

Medical expenses, including hospital bills, doctor’s visits, surgical costs, prescription costs, cost of purchasing medical equipment, ongoing care costs, and costs associated with emergency services

Rehabilitative care costs, including the cost of physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy

Lost income to make up for the time you missed at work while you were recovering from your injury

Lost future earnings, if you were temporarily or permanently disabled due to the accident and are no longer able to perform the same job or work in any capacity

Pain and suffering, including physical pain, emotional trauma, mental distress, PTSD, depression, and anxiety

      Diminished quality of life

Before seeking compensation for your injuries, you should consult with an experienced personal injury lawyer at Pellettieri Rabstein & Altman who can help you understand the total extent of your losses under the law. Once the losses you’ve incurred and will likely incur in the future have been calculated, your attorney may send a demand letter to the at-fault party’s insurance company.

Initial settlement offers from insurance companies typically aren’t very generous, particularly if you are not represented by an attorney. If you sign a settlement agreement without the benefit of your lawyer’s advice and counsel on the value of your claim,  you most likely will receive less than full and fair compensation from the insurance company.

It is in your best interest to allow a lawyer to handle all communications with insurance companies and negotiate a full and fair settlement on your behalf. Claims adjusters know they can’t get away with the same tactics with attorneys that they often use when communicating directly with injury victims. Having an attorney represent you in settlement negotiations can significantly increase your odds of securing the financial relief you deserve.
